Kansas City Sister City (Kurashiki)

Purpose / Mission: To assist Kansas City in broadening and maintaining ties to its sister city, Kurashiki in the Okayama Prefecture, Japan. The Committee is a unit of the Sister City Association of Kansas City, Missouri.. The Committee is the action arm of the Sister City Committee Commission which is appointed by the Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri.

Year Established: 1972

Current Commissioners: Masami Willis and Sachie Stroder

Main Activities: The Committee hosts official and citizen delegation from Kurashiki, carries on special projects from time to time such as the wall mural at the Bartle Hall Convention Center, the planting of cherry trees in Loose Park on the 25th anniversary of the sister city relationship, the exchange of art created by children, provides Japanese reference books to area college libraries, and serves as the regular liaison with the city of Kurashiki. A project of a tea room replica on Kansas City Park property has been completed at Loose Park at the Garden Center.
