Bonsai Society

The Bonsai Society of Greater Kansas City – Celebrating our 45th Year 2013

Our “‘mission'” is to promote the art of Bonsai, the growing and caring for trees in a tray or pot, by offering educational programs to Kansas City and the surrounding area.
One of the oldest societies in the Midwest, it was incorporated in 1968 under “The General Not For Profit Corporation Act” of Missouri.
Meetings are generally held Saturday mornings at the Loose Park Garden Center, 5200 Pennsylvania, Kansas City Missouri (816-784-5300). Actual dates and times vary from month to month but an up to date schedule can be found on our web site http://www.bsgkc.org, or you may call the Garden Center for information and driving directions Monday through Friday.

As education is of prime importance, every year the Society hosts two large exhibits of our members trees. Normally one is held each spring (Mother’s Day weekend at Powell Garden) and fall (September-October) in conjunction with the annual Japanese Festival (Kansas City). Mini exhibits are also held throughout the year and may be in conjunction with other cultural events. Dates and locations can be found in our current schedule.
Our members enjoy a number of benefits including group and individualized instruction, and a bi-monthly newsletter which includes articles on bonsai care and reports on society events. Also, of special note, several times throughout the year the Society hosts Guest Artists from the US and around the world. During their stay with us, organized events can include demonstrations, audio visual presentations and lectures, group critique of members trees, and hands on classes.
Come join us, for a visit or as a new member, and discover the traditional art of Japanese Bonsai in Kansas City.
