City of Lee's Summit Sister City (Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan)

Purpose / Mission: Student exchange

Year Established: Informally in 1999, formally in 2002 with Kawahigashi. Kawahigashi was absorbed into the Aizu community in approximately 2005. Formal acknowledgment is pending, however Sister City activities are on-going. Aizu Mayor, Kanke visited Lee's Summit in November, 2006.

Meetings: Meetings are held when expecting guests from Aizu-Wakamatsu or when we are going to Aizu-Wakamatsu.

Main Activities: Student exchanges by both communities. Some adult visits by Aizu-Wakamatsu citizens.
